Thursday 23/11/17 was the 100 year re-enactment of the first Air Mail flight from Adelaide to Gawler by Robert Carey.
Trevor Unsworth, along with fellow club member David Prest of the Gawler Veteran, Vintage and Classic Vehicle Club, kindly took part in the proceedings, with Trevor taking delivery of the mail bag at the Gawler Air Field flown in by a restored antique plane and in his veteran Oakland Tourer (cream in the pictures).
Trevor delivered the mail bag to the Carey monument at the Gawler Racecourse, Main North Road where a commemorative celebration took place. Martin Walker led the celebration and there were addresses from the Mayor Of Gawler and the granddaughter of Mr Carey.
Member of Parliament Tony Piccolo unveiled the sign on Main North Road which indicates the Carey monument location. The mail bag was delivered to the Gawler Post Office by Trevor in his Oakland and the celebrations moved back to the Adelaide Soaring Club rooms at the Air Field.
